| Dates | 28th - 30th March, 2003 |
| Venue | Thistle Hotel, Heathrow, London, England |
| Organizers | Starfury Conventions |
| Guests | Laura Bertram, Wayne Pygram, Anthony Simcoe |
| Notes | I was trying some new camera components
at this event (when am I not?). They worked well.
PAGE 1: I confess to rather liking that '02Bertram.jpg' came out as well as it did. Good job Steve! At one point, while Anthony Simcoe was on stage, he became somewhat thirsty. He promptly rectified this problem, as demonstrated in '10Simcoe.jpg'. Responding to a request from the audience, Anthony briefly donned a set of 'bunny ears'. See the result in '11Simcoe.jpg'. '12FancyDress.jpg' shows the winning entry in Saturday's fancy dress competition. PAGE 2: '13FancyDress.jpg' proves that it's a good idea to have a few Jedi Chefs on hand to take care of any threats. As it turned out, conflict was avoided, and a more diplomatic course was taken. See the Jedi Chefs web site for details. Quite a variety of Star Wars themed characters were visible at the event. See a selection in '14StarWars.jpg'. After Sean Harry introduced Laura Bertram to Sunday's audience as "the latest Jedi Chef Padawan", she saw fit to acknowledge her status by wearing suitable head gear ('19Bertram.jpg'). PAGE 3: As clear from '33JediMasterChefs.jpg', ever-vigilant Jedi Chefs are ready to tackle hostiles approaching from any direction. The Jedi Chef order committed a significant force to the event. Some of those present appear in '34JediChefs.jpg'. To demonstrate his devotion to the order, Civic - one of the latest Jedi Chef Apprentices - brought to our forward base a very nice cake. '35Cake.jpg' shows this fine contribution before it was ritualistically dissected and removed from the galaxy. Thanks, Civic! Sean Harry can, understandably, experience considerable stress running events such as Ascendant. This time, he might have snapped, waving a machine gun around like a crazed lunatic ('36Harry.jpg'). Deaths were only avoided because, in his enraged state, Sean did not realize that the 'weapon' was merely a toy. Sean later recovered his composure, and we all had a good laugh about the incident. Following a request, this photo now features in the fourth Caption Competition, further down this page. |

Caption Competition IV: Dirty Harry

After the success of the previous "Caption Competitions", I decided to hold a fourth such contest. Hence "Caption Competition IV: Dirty Harry". Of course, there can't be a caption competition without a suitable photograph, and this time someone suggested to me that the above image might make for some interesting caption suggestions. I agreed. After all, most anybody who has attended conventions in the UK will be aware of Mr. Sean Harry, and I'm pretty sure that quite a few of you can imagine what he might have uttered prior to 'doing in' the photographer.
This fourth caption competition closed on 13th. October, 2003. I then considered the various entries and selected the lucky winner. The above picture was updated to reflect the winning caption. The winner will be notified of her success, and will receive a nice, large print of the above photograph, including their winning caption, in due course. This may take a little longer than in the case of previous caption competitions as I lost many of the details of the submitted entries - and entrants - due to a catastrophic failure on my network. I think that I know who sent in the above caption but I'm not sure, and don't have their contact details anyway! If you were responsible for the above, winning caption then please let me know.
As always, Thank You to everyone who submitted one or more entries.
Important Note: final rights to all images belong to the people represented in them or myself. In using this image I realize that I have not secured the explicit permission of Sean Harry (or anybody else concerned) to use his image in this way. However, I sincerely believe that, since the 'caption competitions' are ran purely for fun, that Sean won't mind at all. If he or anyone else involved has any objection to me using this image in this or any other way then they should simply let me know and I will remove the image from this web site immediately. I hope that everyone realizes that these caption competitions were and are just a bit of fun.
