| Notes | At the time of writing, this is
the most recent convention that I have attended and was without a doubt
the most fun of any of the six events that I took part in. Of course, it
is difficult to re-create the atmosphere of the very busy Alliance
convention of 1997, especially with it being the first such event that
I attended, but the 18 hours of parties over this three day event absolutely
rocked! Even some of the guests partied late into the nights/mornings,
especially the three Earth: Final Conflict people. Particularly
praiseworthy was Mr, Chevolleau, who must have decided that visitors to
England don't require sleep.
The last picture on page 3, number 36, is notable because it was taken at around 2 a.m. on the Monday morning, i.e. the Sunday night party was still running (and went on to around 5 o'clock!). The fellow wearing the black leather jacket, sitting on the floor with his back to the camera is Robert Leeshock, and Richard Chevolleau was around until even later (The MAN!). By the way, the obvious and irritating blue bandage visible on my face on some photographs is due to me injuring myself when I tripped on Thursday night. As well as cutting my head I also bruised a kidney, which although not at all serious was considerably painful. Make sure to take a look at the results of my "Caption Competition"! |
I held a rather silly "Caption Competition" to invite anyone to suggest what Robert Leeshock, pictured above, might have been saying to his dancing partner when the above photograph was taken. I considered all of the entries received and choose the winner based on artistic content and number of round letters in the words. I then told visitors to this page to, "Look out for the result here soon!", although it took me three weeks from the close of the competition to actually update the page and inform the winners, who were in fact 'Naomi & Sas'. I chose their entry (one of 10 entries that they made!) as I felt it to have a very traditional, sleazy quality.
If you click on the above image in your web browser you should receive a high resolution version that should be good enough to make photographic prints from. Please note that it is a much larger file, around 233 Kilobytes, and will therefore probably take a while to download fully.
The runner-up entry was actually from Mr. Leeshock himself, submitted via the young lady in the picture. He wasn't really saying this, but thought that a nice quote for the bubble might be, "If I could just reach that spot...". Intriguing; exactly which 'spot' did he mean? We will never know. Anyway, the entry was submitted by Kristen Jones. Thanks Kristen - say Hello if you see me at another convention!
And Thank You everyone who submitted one or more entries.
Important Note: final rights to all images belong to the people represented in them. In using this image I realize that I have not secured the explicit permission of Robert Leeshock (or anybody else concerned) to use his image in this way. However, I sincerely believe that, since the 'caption competition' was ran purely for fun, and since Robert seems to agree with having fun, that he won't mind at all. If he or anyone else involved has any objection to me using this image in this or any other way then they should simply let me know and I will remove the image from this web site immediately. I hope that everyone realizes that this really was and is just a bit of fun.
